GoPro’s long-awaited comeback
After six years of radio silence, GoPro is finally teasing the GoPro Max 2 — the long-overdue follow-up to its original 360 camera. With a few cryptic images shared on social media, the brand signals its return to a market it had seemingly abandoned, now dominated by players like Insta360 X5.

A redesigned camera with fresh ambitions
The teaser shows skydivers with a brand-new GoPro model, along with the caption “dropping…” A clever nod to both the skydive and the product launch. From the images, the Max 2 appears to feature a sleeker design, better-aligned lenses, and even a front-facing heat sink — likely to address past overheating issues. Though GoPro hasn’t revealed specs yet, this camera clearly has ambitions.
6 years of silence… while the competition thrived
The first GoPro Max launched in 2019. Since then? Nothing. Meanwhile, Insta360 surged ahead, launching multiple 360 cameras — including the incredibly powerful Insta360 X5, with 8K resolution, removable lenses, PureVideo low-light AI, and unmatched workflow features.
In short: while GoPro was sleeping, Insta360 built an empire.
Max 2: Too little, too late?
GoPro now faces a serious challenge. Users today expect more than great specs — they demand an intuitive app, seamless editing tools, AI tracking, and a robust ecosystem. All things Insta360 currently does better.
For GoPro to succeed, the Max 2 can’t just be “good.” It needs to be revolutionary, both in hardware and software.

The pressure’s on — and DJI is coming too
To make matters more intense, DJI is rumored to launch its own 360 camera soon — the “Osmo 360” — adding even more competition to an already crowded space.
GoPro Max 2 vs Insta360 X5: The battle we’ve been waiting for?
Will the GoPro Max 2 be enough to take on the Insta360 X5, a camera that’s already beloved by creators, athletes, and vloggers?
