The first noticeable difference between the two models is the price. The GoPro Mission 1 is offered at €599.99, while the GoPro Mission 1 Pro is priced at €699.99. There is therefore a €100 difference between the two cameras.

On paper, this price difference is mainly justified by the Pro version’s more advanced video capabilities. The Mission 1 shoots up to 8K at 30 fps, while the Mission 1 Pro goes up to 8K at 60 fps. The difference is also significant in 4K: the Mission 1 reaches 120 fps, while the Mission 1 Pro can shoot up to 240 fps.

This means that the Pro version offers more flexibility in editing, particularly for creating smooth slow motion, cropping an image or producing more cinematic videos.

A compact design and similar box contents

Both models are presented as compact cinema cameras. The GoPro Mission 1 is described as a compact camera for demanding creators, while the GoPro Mission 1 Pro is more geared towards advanced features.

In the box, both cameras appear to offer the same contents: the camera, an Enduro 2 battery, a removable lens sunshade, a curved adhesive mount, a mounting loop with knurled screw, and a USB-C cable.

Video: The GoPro Mission 1 Pro takes the lead

It is clearly in video that the Mission 1 Pro stands out.

The GoPro Mission 1 already allows you to film in 8K in 16:9 format at up to 30 frames per second. It also offers 4K at up to 120 frames per second in both 16:9 and 4:3. For most creators, that’s already more than enough.

You can film YouTube videos, travel vlogs, Instagram and TikTok content, or even more professional shots without feeling limited. 4K at 120fps already allows you to create beautiful slow-motion footage, and 8K at 30fps offers very high resolution for cropping or stabilizing in post-production.

But the GoPro Mission 1 Pro goes much further. It can film in 8K 16:9 at up to 60 frames per second, but also in 8K Open Gate 4:3 at up to 30 frames per second. It also offers 4K at up to 240 frames per second, as well as 1080p at up to 480 frames per second.

In practical terms, this gives you much more freedom in editing. You can significantly slow down your shots while maintaining excellent image quality. For action sports, dynamic shots, creative transitions, or cinematic videos, it’s a real advantage.

Slow motion: a major advantage for the Mission 1 Pro

If you like slow motion, the difference between the two models is very important.

The GoPro Mission 1 offers slow motion up to 8x in 1080p, 4x in 4K and 2x in 4K. This is more than enough for typical use: slowing down a travel scene, camera movement, sporting action or lifestyle shot.

But the GoPro Mission 1 Pro offers slow motion up to 16x in 1080p, 8x in 4K, and even 2x in 8K. This is much more appealing to creators who want to produce spectacular shots.

If you’re filming surfing, mountain biking, trail running, skiing, stunts, drone footage, sports scenes, or very dynamic shots, the Pro version will clearly be more suitable. It allows you to obtain a smoother and more impressive result.

Photo: no real difference

In terms of photography, the two cameras appear identical. They offer a 50 MP resolution in high definition and 12 MP for more standard use.

If your main goal is to take photos, the GoPro Mission 1 should be sufficient. The Pro version doesn’t seem to offer any major difference in this regard.

The extra €100 for the Pro version is therefore not justified by the photo, but rather by the video.

Water resistance: 20 meters for both models

Another important similarity: both cameras are waterproof up to 20 meters. This is ideal for creators who travel, film outdoors, or participate in water sports.

It’s perfect if you do vlogging, travel videos, or create content for YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok. It’s also suitable if you want a high-performing camera without necessarily using the most advanced video modes.

If you mainly film in 4K, do some slow motion and want to save €100, the Mission 1 is a very sensible choice.

Who should choose the GoPro Mission 1 Pro for?

The GoPro Mission 1 Pro is geared more towards advanced creators. It’s more appealing if you want to take advantage of 8K 60fps, 4K 240fps, extreme slow motion, and the 8K Open Gate mode.

It will be particularly suitable for videographers, sports creators, image professionals or those who want to retain maximum freedom in post-production.

If you already know that you will be using slow motion a lot, filming action scenes or producing highly polished content, the extra €100 can be more than justified.

Verdict: GoPro Mission 1 or GoPro Mission 1 Pro?

The GoPro Mission 1 is the most sensible choice for the majority of users. It already offers excellent image quality, 8K, 4K 120fps, and a 1-inch sensor in a compact format.

The GoPro Mission 1 Pro is the best choice if you want to take your video work to the next level. Its advantages are clear: 8K 60fps, 4K 240fps, more powerful slow motion, and greater creative freedom.

My opinion is simple: if you want the best value for money, choose the GoPro Mission 1. If you want the most complete camera and you really intend to take advantage of slow motion and high frame rates, choose the GoPro Mission 1 Pro.

In both cases, GoPro offers two very interesting compact cameras for content creators who want to produce quality images, whether traveling, doing sports, vlogging or in a more professional setting.
