The vast majority of amateur and professional pilots operate in the &#8220;Open&#8221; category. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Open Category:<\/strong> For low-risk flights. It does not require prior authorization from the civil aviation authority, but imposes compliance with strict rules. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Specific Category:<\/strong> For flights with moderate risk (e.g., flights beyond the pilot&#8217;s visual line of sight). It requires a risk assessment and authorization from the competent authority. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Certified Category:<\/strong> For high-risk flights, comparable to manned aviation (e.g., the transport of passengers or dangerous goods).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-la-categorie-ouverte-ce-que-vous-devez-savoir\">The Open Category: What You Need to Know<\/h2>\n\n<p>For most users, the Open category is the most relevant. To fly legally in this category in Denmark, several conditions must be met. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-enregistrement-de-l-operateur\"><strong>1. Operator registration<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>If your drone weighs <strong>more than 250 grams<\/strong> or is equipped with a camera (even if it weighs less than 250g), you must register as a drone operator. Registration takes place in your country of residence within the EU. Basic training and testing (subcategories A1\/A3) are usually free and are conducted on the platform of your country&#8217;s civil aviation authority. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A1\/A3 Certificate:<\/strong> Allows you to fly with light drones (A1) or far from people (A3).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A2 Certificate:<\/strong> A supplementary exam that authorizes flying closer to people with C2 class drones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-regles-de-vol-generales\"><strong>3. General Flight Rules<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>Once registered and certified, you must adhere to strict flight rules during each operation:<\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The maximum flight altitude is <strong>120 meters<\/strong> above the ground.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The drone must always remain within the pilot&#8217;s direct line of sight ( <strong>VLOS principle &#8211; Visual Line of Sight<\/strong> ).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respect for people&#8217;s privacy is paramount. It is forbidden to film or photograph people without their consent in private places. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is forbidden to fly over gatherings of people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respect the safety distances from non-involved persons, which vary according to the flight subcategory (A1, A2, A3).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-specificites-danoises-et-zones-de-vol\">Danish Specifics and Flight Zones<\/h2>\n\n<p>Although the framework is European, Denmark has defined its own geographical zones where drone flights are restricted or prohibited. It is <strong>essential to consult the official map<\/strong> before each flight. <\/p>\n\n<p>The reference tool in Denmark is the website <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dronezoner.dk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dronezoner.dk<\/a><\/strong> . This interactive map provided by the Danish Transport Authority (Trafikstyrelsen) indicates all the restricted zones. <\/p>\n\n<p>Typical restrictions include:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Airports:<\/strong> Extensive exclusion zones (generally 5 km for large airports and 2 km for smaller airfields) are in place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Military areas:<\/strong> Flying over military installations and exercise areas is strictly prohibited.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Urban and built-up areas:<\/strong> Specific rules apply. Danish regulations prior to 2021 were very strict regarding urban areas (&#8220;byomr\u00e5der&#8221;). Although European legislation is more flexible, it is crucial to check local restrictions on Dronezoner.dk.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nature protection zones:<\/strong> Many national parks and nature reserves are no-fly zones to protect wildlife.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Critical infrastructure:<\/strong> Power plants, prisons, railways, main roads, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-assurance\">Insurance<\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>Third-party liability insurance<\/strong> is mandatory for operating a drone weighing more than 250 grams in Denmark. It must cover potential damage caused to third parties.
