The official standard governing their use is <strong>NOM-107-SCT3-2019<\/strong> . This regulation aims to ensure the safety of airspace and people on the ground.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-classification-des-drones-selon-leur-poids-mtow\">Classification of drones according to their weight (MTOW)<\/h2>\n\n<p>Mexican law classifies drones into three main categories based on their maximum take-off weight (MTOW). The requirements vary considerably for each category. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Micro <a href=\"https:\/\/droneandcam.com\/en\/\">drone<\/a> (up to 250 grams):<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No registration or authorization is required for recreational use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This is the simplest category, ideal for small recreational drones.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The basic safety rules (do not fly over people, stay within sight) still apply.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Small drone (from 251 grams to 2 kg):<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Registration of the device with the DGAC is mandatory<\/strong> , even for recreational use. Registration is done online. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The pilot does not need a license for recreational use, but must comply with all flight rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Additional permissions are required for commercial use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Medium and Large Drones (from 2 kg to 25 kg and over 25 kg):<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This category is reserved for commercial and professional use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drone registration is mandatory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The pilot must obtain a <strong>drone pilot&#8217;s license<\/strong> from the DGAC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Civil liability insurance<\/strong> is required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each commercial flight may require specific authorization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-regles-generales-de-vol-a-respecter\">General flight rules to be observed<\/h2>\n\n<p>Regardless of your drone category, you must strictly adhere to the following rules throughout Mexico:<\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Flying within visual line of sight (VLOS):<\/strong> You must always keep your drone within your direct field of vision.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maximum altitude:<\/strong> Never exceed 122 meters (400 feet) above the ground.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Distance from airports:<\/strong> Stay at least 9.2 km from airports and 900 meters from heliports.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Flight times:<\/strong> Only fly during the day, between sunrise and sunset.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Prohibited areas:<\/strong> It is forbidden to fly over gatherings of people, private properties without authorization, military areas, government buildings and <strong>archaeological sites<\/strong> (such as Chichen Itza, Teotihuacan, etc.) without a special permit, which is very difficult to obtain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Respect for privacy:<\/strong> Do not record images of people without their consent.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-conseils-pour-les-touristes-et-pilotes-etrangers\">Advice for foreign tourists and pilots<\/h2>\n\n<p>If you are a tourist wishing to use your drone in Mexico, the most important rule to remember is this: commercial use of a drone by a foreign citizen is <strong>strictly prohibited<\/strong> . You may only use your drone for recreational purposes. <\/p>\n\n<p>If your drone weighs more than 250 grams, you are technically required to register it online with the DGAC (French Civil Aviation Authority). While the process may seem complex for a foreigner, it is recommended to comply with the law.
